Over the past two decades, the success of Qatar Airways has propelled Doha into a global hub of transport and commerce in the Middle East. Fueled by its vast oil reserve and the relatively small native population, Qatar has been consistently ranked as the wealthiest country in the world on a per capita basis. As a travel destination, Qatar is essentially a city-state. Doha has been actively working to resurrect or reinvent its Arabian heritage with an eye toward the future.
