Japan
Japan was the first foreign country I visited. Having grown up in Taiwan, I have a comparably decent understanding of Japanese history and culture. All my grandparents were born during the Japanese occupation and were fluent in Japanese. Fiercely traditional yet modern, the country seems tailor-made for tourism. The country has something unique to offer visitors of all stripes, from the bustle of the world’s largest city to the quaint onsen villages. Few places in Asia are as culturally distinct and welcoming as Japan. One does not need to visit blockbuster sights to have a good time here. A simple visit to a convenience store is a cultural adventure in itself.
