Inca Trail
Sometimes referred to as one of the best hikes in the world, this 26-mile stretch of “classic” Inca Trail follows the original Inca road from the banks of the Urubamba River to the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu. For outdoor novices like ourselves, the altitude and lack of creature comfort could be quite a physical challenge. The four-day-three-night trek brings visitors to many Inca sites and varying micro-climate. Due to its growing popularity, this section of the Inca Trail is now strictly regulated and only accessible with a licensed guide. And just like any good journey, the highlight of the experience was all the great people I shared it with.
